A working computer is a very complex object that is capable of performing numerous tasks simultaneously. Perhaps by making a paper representation, it softens that complexity and makes a computer seem much less complicated than it actually is. When I think of paper, I think of simplicity in form and presentation.
I also liked the idea of shrinking it down to something a bit more tangible and hand-held. There’s something special about holding an item in your hand. I’ve always had a liking for little keepsakes and souvenirs, coins, stamps, etc. It gives a feeling of nostalgia and longing to be back in the place I obtained the object. Perhaps this is also what I was attempting to convey.
Either way, I hope you enjoy assembling your very own P.C. No matter what the meaning or significance it will hold for you, it will surely provide a bit of delight in its construction and ultimate display.
The P.C. is available for purchase now.

Kinekt Design is launching a line of graphic t-shirts called Kinektees. Inspired by the music box, M-pM is the first of the series with more to come. Please visit the Kinektees section of our website to view this design in detail.
We’d like to thank some of our early supporters for their kind words regarding our patented Gear Ring!
You can read what they had to say here:
Animator and VJ Motomichi Nakamura and I collaborated to design several characters to compliment the Kinekt Design graphic aesthetic. The inspiration for these guys comes from our belief of minimalism and simplicity in design.
Also present is the video game style that many of us have come to love. I can remember spending hour and hour in front of that glowing portal called Nintendo and imagining I was in the game itself. Leave luck to heaven.
Anyway, here’s a first glimpse at our new friend. Please check back in often to see what adventures he will undertake.
Ben Hopson and I collaborated to design a product that we humbly feel is a great item for just about anyone. After a conversation Ben and I had one day back in March 2009 about adding something extra to a fashion accessory, we were determined to come up with something that had both a playful element as well as a modern, sleek aesthetic. Since both of us share an interest in micro-precision parts and machining, the Gear Ring made perfect sense on many levels.
Ben handled the physical design and modeling portion of the product, while I handled all of the necessary logistics in getting the product made. Believe it or not, the product took almost a year to produce. Numerous samples from our manufacturer were created and had to be modified accordingly. There were times when I did not think the product would ever see the light of day, but I stuck with it and on one magical day in December 2009, a box came for me.
Anyone who has experienced the manufacturing or production of a product knows that it is not an easy endeavor to undergo. There are many choices that not only need to be made, but also communicated clearly with another party.
I learned quite a lot from this process. It taught me that one has to be flexible, patient, and willing to make sacrifices to get things done. This is the advice I would offer anyone who is looking to manufacture or produce their own product.
I would like to especially thank Ben not only for his work on this project, but for being a friend and support when I was unsure if I could go forward with the product. I am looking forward to working with him again to develop more great items by Kinekt Design for you to enjoy.
It’s fair to say that I am quite the electronic music fan. As many of you can relate, there’s something special about those little blip bleeps and click clacks that are present in many digital tracks nowadays. Aside from product design, I also want to share creative energy in other forms as well. That leads me to the main topic of this post, which is the creation of Kinekt Design’s first song release. Inspired by Kraftwerk and mechanisms at work, Ringtone is a fun and playful tune that contains samples of gears in motion. Not unlike a miniature machine, Ringtone brings movement to life.
To accompany the creation of the Gear Ring, Ben Mullins and I worked together to compose Ringtone for your listening pleasure. Please find a free offering on our Extras page. Kinekt Design will be releasing more music in the future by Ben and myself, so please stay tuned for updates.
